Hi all,

A few weeks ago my Mk2 1.2 16V HLX started randomly misfiring/ dropping in power for a few seconds before returning back to normal.

Then one evening it cut out, and wouldn't restart. The AA man who came out to recover me used easy start spray and the car started.

I've checked for fuel, and the injectors are injecting fuel fine (therefore crank sensor is also working fine).

The spark, on all four cylinders, is orange (not blue/ white). I've changed the coilpack (on the 16V it's a single coilpack not the double coil packs as on 8V), but still twin wasted spark), the HT leads and the spark plugs. It hasn't made a difference.

I've read about the issue of coil pack failure on 8V's causing a spike which causes ECU failures. But this most often only causes 2 cylinders to misfire, whereas my engine won't fire at all.

Any ideas? At wits end with this now!

I'd start with more basic stuff Forster
Check your battery voltage is good
Is the alternator workit correctly
And then start checking the earth cables for damage or corrosion as all of these could cause low voltage that would make a poor spark

Hi Chris,

Battery voltage all good.

Checked voltage to coil with ignition on and its reading the same as the battery voltage so all seems okay there.
