Hi all,

Over the past two weeks my Mk2 1.2 16V Punto has been misfiring randomly, and at low load it would suddenly drop in power (as if going to two cylinders for example) and then when I opened the throttle the power would suddenly come back again.

I kept meaning to check why it was doing this but in the end karma bit me and the engine cut out last Friday, and it wouldn't restart.

If I spray starter fluid into the intake plenum, it will run fine, so I know it must be a fuelling issue (and not spark).

I have checked the pump runs and it does, and the filter is fine because I took the fuel line off at the tank and fuel comes out when the pump is running.

I have checked one of the injector plugs to see if it is getting a pulsing 12V feed and I couldn't get any reading.

Would a faulty crankshaft position sensor be the reason for this fault, and would it have caused the symptoms I was experiencing over the past two weeks before finally conking out?

I am going to check the resistance the sensor gives when the engine is cranking over tomorrow - does anyone know what range I should be seeing? I have tested for a resistance with the sensor off the car and it is showing one as expected.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Simon
