Hi guys,

I returned from holiday to the long stay car park to realise that my Fiat Punto 1.2 8v (facelift version 05) would not start. I eventually got it started and drove around the car park for 10 minutes and the temp sensor was all over the place.

The AA came out and tried to no avail, he said it was the coolant temperature sensor malfunctioning and flooding the engine with fuel. He was not able to read the ECU.

After being towed home a mobile mechanic came and took a look and changed the coolant temperature sensor, the problem still occurred. The immobiliser light was coming on intermittently and now it is permanently on. The car turns over but doesn't start.

I have attached a video of when we managed to get it started for a minute shortly before the temperature sensor went up to the max, back down again and the engine light came on and the engine cut out.

The guy reckoned the ECU is knackered as it also wouldn't work on his software. I also tried my own OBDII device and that didn't work either.

If it is in fact the ECU what is the best way to approach this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Before you start spending money on ECUs check the basics
Is the battery OK?
Check the battery negative (ground) leads and connections to chassis and between engine and chassis (search forum for more information )
Check grounds and connectors on engine ECU, body ECU and Fusebox.
