Hi'
1.2 16v, year 2000.

Last day, I started of from work to drive home.
Instantly at least one cylinder was missing.
"Ok, its the coilpack", so changed it.
And the battery, since at was not doing very good already, for some time.
Nothing was better ! :-(
Checked leads and sparkplugs.
Spark on all four sparkplugs.
Sparkplugs on cylinders 2 and 3 a little dark, but works fine.
Interchanged the leads. Nothing different.
Interchanged the sparkplugs. Nothing different.
Only cylinders 1 and 4 is working correctly.

Tried cutting power to the injectors.
When I remove the powercable to the injector on injectors 1 and 4, the engine halts.
When I remove the powercables to injectors 2 and/or 3, the engine humps along as before. So no reaction if power is connected or not to injectors 2 and 3.
With ignition on, all powerconnectors to the injectors show 8,5'ish volt's.
So there is power to all four injectors !

Either exhaust or cylinders smell like unburned fuel.
There is no (new) strange smell in the engine bay.
There is no raise in oil usage and oil looks very fine.
There is no use or drop in coolant and its the same pretty colour as always.

So..., what can cause two injectors to quit, simultaneously?

PS: I cannot do a compressiontest, and absolutely nothing indicates headgasket failure or failure to pistons/valves !

Thanks in advance.

BTW: No warninglights are active, but they work when ignition is turned on.
Temperature is good and stable, also.

Is that a typo? Are you saying that there is no smell of unburnt fuel?

>>So..., what can cause two injectors to quit, simultaneously?

Seems like you are saying there is no smell of unburnt fuel.

You can test the injectors with a long handled screwdriver with the blade on the injector and handle to your ear. The clicking is easily noticeable for a working injector. On my 16V the bracket for the inlet manifold that bolts on the cylinder head has been cut by a garage which makes it easier to get the injectors out? I have had no problems with my punto with that bracket cut in the 8 years since it was cut - I try to avoid leaning on the manifold when working on the car but I often end up doing that anyway - no problems at all so far.

If you probe the wiring the injector voltage should be pulsing when you crank the engine.

A compression tester is not very expensive and they are a useful thing to have so you can follow the progress of your engine as it gets older.

Thanks.
I'll try and listen, if I can hear a difference between the injectors.

Yes, there is no smell of fuel smell = no fuel from injectors.

Any idea why two injectors would fail simultaneously ?
