Technical MOT fail exhaust question

Hi just fail MOT..will add atachment...just wondering what kind of price range i have to look..actually doing this on Kwik fit.Exhaust fail + there is some issues with breaks...always have problem with parking break my mechanic want to fox it few times but still coming back same isuue...so maybe will do on Kwik fit...the emission test fail on lambda..Fast and second idle test..our exahust is almost new......some post around say that garage ask for lambda exchange 500 pound which is scary if lambda is for sale on ebay for 20-50 pounds..if kwik fit give me high price i can ask my mechanic...but dont want to do him the parking break...

any one know what can be the price on kwik fit on total...and what can be the separate price for the probbably exhaust isuue???

the tell me to come back next week that they gonna try clean something and retest that before they give me price for repair..not sure what the guy want to clean if breaks or lambda..im czech and understand good english but the guy like stammer and lisp all togehter

Are you any good with your hands, if you can put Ikea furniture together you can fix a Punto. There are plenty of youtube 'how to' guides on repairing specific aspects of the Punto and get a Haynes manual/


I'd avoid Kwikfit, they serve a purpose in much the same way that Katie Price is considered a celebrity. Find a good independent garage, that you can understand and feel comfortable with, maybe a google search of your local area?


How many miles has the car done and how do you typically drive it?

Until the exhaust leak is fixed I would ignore the emissions test readings.
Over here the test will not proceed if there is an exhaust leak.

well Kwik fit experience was crazy..i have my independent mechanic..but when i coming t Kwik fit and ask what they find out they tell me that break cylinder need to be repair first and then fiat punto catalytic converter ..i thing

he give me crazy 520 quote but i finally pay only 300 is craZY HOW THEY MADE MONEY ON PEOPLE ..not sure how but probably sell diferrent parts..or not sure how they can drop price so bad...

MAGIC IN KWIK-FIT..major repair on MOT they ask for 520pounds..and did say that maybe 460..when i tell them that i ask my mechanic first because price look to high.. they call manager again and tell me that they can do this for 400...did say ok give me 10 minutes i ask my mechanic a decide..my mechanic tell me that he can fix it for max 300...but i gonna have to wait few day{no probl} so Kwik fit call manager again and they offer me fix out car for 350 and.maybe today..i did tell them sorry 50 is still good money to save..so put my car together{they tell me 1 hour} and i take it and fix it in other place..we went to Morrison for food and i have phone call for KF and they finnaly give me price 300 pounds and tell that the car be ready today....Well not sure how they go from 520 to 300...but save 220 feel good

Not sure what 'special exhaust' is, sounds to me like they conned someone else into replacing the whole system they didn't need and had it lying around to sell on. Maybe I'm just cynical and they really did put a 'special exhaust' on, you'll be able to do 2000 mph now and still get 187 mpg.


At least its fixed, good luck with the retest at the MOT.

Ever considered that Kwik fit are just telling you parts need to be replaced that don't need doing? .they are well known for it especially brake pads and disc's that are only 40% work and such

Ask garage to repair exhaust then test emissions before ready to MOT, plus repair other fail MOT part too. Don't take to KwikFix or cowboy garage.

The lastnote i put here was after i fix it with them...{last time}
not sure what they did or done...but the first note was do exchange my break cylinder and do some exchange for front exhaust and maybe catalyst conventer
...but the strange bill say that the repair exhaust
to me looks like they are made money in parts because not sure how they can drop price from 520 to 300 and still made money

well but after the repair i notice some burning smell in my car today but this is maybe belong to the cold and new exhaust{hope} but other thing is like air pressure sound from engine area..more in passenger side..not sure if this can belong to the exhaust repair..or if this is something else they maybe done because lost some coins..hard to know if you are not mechanic..because just wondering if this can belong to the repair if they are doing this repairs with some warranty?????!!!!!

An exhaust for a MK2/2B punto is cheap as chips. Ebay price is less than £60 including the new rubber mounts. For a mechanic with a proper garage you're looking at an hours labour charge (if that).
A leaking exhaust can cause an MOT failure on the emissions, I've had that myself.

I have found myself a nice local garage who do all the work I cannot do on my drive, they charge £45 per hour and are proper mechanics, always best to find a reliable garage rather than rely on places like Kwik fit or Halfords to do your spannering.
