Styling Removing mk2 door cards...

You don't need to remove the door cards to get at the speakers on the Mk2

Just pull the grill off the front of the speaker... simple as that....

You will have fun if you want to run new cables to the speakers tho.... It involves drilling the door and the car....

I looked at doing it when I fitted my Diamond Audio Components, but it involves taking the door off the car. Just too much hassle for me....

Enjoy!!!!

You havn't looked inside that tempting rubber hose from the car to the door then......

Once you disconnect that, all will become clear......

I can't remember which end I removed, Car end or Door end, but each will reveal the same answer....

The air will be slighty blue with disbelief......

Just be carefull removing it.... I can't stress this enough.....

Memory says, blue part moves backwards with a little persuasion and then, the 'plug' comes off....

There is a little hint of what you are about to find.....

Actually though... just re-reading your original question.....

regarding the tweeters... I was always told they are best as close to your ear as possible because the high frequencies don't travel as far as the other frequencies, hence Bass being ok in the boot.

I looked at placing the tweeters at the top of the B piller... (above the seat belt) It's close to the ear the the speaker cable can easily be concealed behind the black rubber trim that is near by.... Sorted.

Shame the ICE project got abandoned in my car, I have RCA's run to the back and large enough power cable for 3 large amps... So any other questions you have about running cables in the Mk2... Just ask mate....

I'm sure I'll find out tomorrow, I can't imagine how bad it is? What other options do I have regarding amping up the door speakers then?

And cheers for the help dude, I'm gonna be doing the boot soon, so if I get stuck (I'm sure I will :D ) I'll PM you (y)

Heres how to do it :)

Disconnect the wiring connector between the car and the door.

Inside the connector you'll find a yellow plastic grommet which holds all the pins in place.

Remove this, and underneath is a black rubber grommet which you'll need to remove as well.

Now comes the tricky bit. You have to use the area of the connector with no pins used and drill through to make a hole big enough to allow your new speaker cable to come through.

Then run the cable through the rubber boot between the car and the door.

Job done (y)

To spoil the suprise.....

I saw the rubber hose and thought, yea, cool, cables through there, no probs.

You will find the door connected to the car by way of a plug!!! No way through for cables.

Options are.

Trace speaker cable to inside the car, cut and then connect your new cables to that... messy

Door off, two small drill holes and use rubber grommits to protect your cable. Tidy job.

I did the classic, I will use the existing wires temporally off the head unit. It has been 2 years tempoary now!!!!

Serious!!!! I looked and thought best left alone!!!! Can't remember there being any 'spare' space on the connector on my car.

Mine is an elx, electric windows and central locking.... any difference to yours????

Good site to buy from, I brought stuff from there.....

Sorry to say, but yes, in my opinion, doors off to drill the holes... there is no way to get a dill in there. It's no sweat to remove the doors... well thats according to my mate who is a mechanic!!!!

Have a look at the plug ends though... perhaps there is a space to drill a hole, I could have been mistaken....

Let me know how you get on.

While it stopped raining for a bit I went outside and had a look....

All I have to say is.... ********.... (n)

Looks like I'm gonna have to take the door off. Gonna go and get a Haynes manual tomorrow and attempt to remove it before I buy the amp and wiring so I know how hard it is to do. Will normal screwdrivers be ok to remove the door or will I need any other tools?
