On Monday my Mk2 Punto failed to start when I was leaving from work - same problem as about 4 weeks or so ago, tries to start, engine turns over, but will not fire up
So, breakdown recovery person turns up after 2 hours wait :bang: and says that the reason it won't start is a build up of static because of all the short journeys I do, he unplugged the lead on the top of the engine (he said it was something to do with the crankshaft), plugged it in again and the car fires up and is fine
Now, does that sound like a load of old balony to you lot, or could it be the case? I thought that these cars were designed for "city" use, ie short journeys etc
When it broke down before the bloke that came got it going by sticking a whole load of damp start where the air filter sits, but that caused the engine management light to come on, only fixed by a ecu check at Fiat.
I am torn as to what to do now, I can easily unplug the lead and plut it in again if/when it happens again, but I'd really rather not have to do this.
I could give it a blast on the motorway once a week if that would solve it, but obviously it's not something I want to have to do either.
Ideas?
