Our Punto spends a lot of time in an underground car park. No 1 son uses the train to work and the odd journey is in the city. The steering trips out everytime he drives it. We swapped cars last week and it has done 300 miles, mainly motorway. Took it out this morning and the steering light stayed off.
I replaced the motor relays last year and cleaned up the comm in the alternator a few months back. The six year old battery has over 14 volts at the terminals at idle but never more than 12.4 when cold. I'm tempted to say the battery is past it.

When my power steering was acting up in 2016 (because of an alternator problem), I replaced the 2008 battery and nothing changed. So I have been using the 2008 battery as a summer battery and using the new one for winter.
