Just thought i would share my experience with this fault.
I noticed for about a week that turning left was starting to very heavy, I just assumed it was a flat tyre and sure enough i checked my tyre pressure and it was a bit low. I then found out that i had a slow puncture (Big Nail) and had a new tyre fitted. A few more days go by and still the steering was starting to feel heavy but again only when turning left. As i was driving home from work one night the steering wheel came away from me and slammed it self in to full right lock, luckily I managed to stop before hitting the car in the opposite lane. I wrestled the steering and i mean properly wrestled with the steering wheel just to get the car to my mates garage (Only round the corner thankfully). Turns out the power steering motor had failed and only wanted to go in one direction right, so as soon you turned on the ignition the steering wheel would just slam in to full right. I sure also mention that this fault did not trigger the power steering fault light. Motor was replace and the car lives again.
Again i thought i would write this as it could have ended so much worse, as I take the motorway home every day, but luckily i made it off the motorway and on a not so busy road when this happened.
If you think you have this fault get it looked ASAP.
