I have a punto mk2 2003
the horn was not working when i got car
done all the normal checks
it seems i have followed it back to under the steering wheel connections
has anyone changed the wiper stalk and found the problem resolved before i take steering wheel off and waste time

its usually the airbag wiring squib thats gone open circuit for the horn due to breakage in the wire
if you want the easiest solution try another squib after disconnecting battery 10 minutes beforehand

the horn push works on to negative earth so the other solution is to hardwire from the underbonnet fusebox relay into the car to a push on/off switch and the other side of this switch goes to earth
hth

Thanks for your reply
As I got this car for my daughter to learn to drive I wanted to fix it so she could use the horn normally instead of making a switch on the dash
Could you tell me are both the horn wires earth under the air bag which goes to the steering wheel connection
I have tried cutting them and joining them both together but no horn sound
So I have gone back to under the steering wheel where the horn wires plug into
the wiper/indicator module where I cut the wires and joined them to hear horn
So my thinking to change this module or could it be the connector I see inside the steering wheel where both air bag and horn clips in
please help needed thanks

Thatll he the airbag squib at fault as flisko has stated

You have a horn on the coloumn but not behind the airbag

So.... yea

The squibs are coiled ribbon to allow the steering wheel to turn but no break the connection
Over time and age - these fail
Getting rarer these days but it still.occurs

Of no help to anybody, but I've just fitted twin very loud large disc horns to my diesel hack. The cheap twin all in one that I fitted some years ago was dying. These horns will go a long way in helping those drivers who fail to see me in times of need...:D

Originally my wee diesel van had a pathetic "toot" of a horn. I'm one of those drivers who uses my horn when some drivers are in a world of their own & just do what they want & I let them know that I'm there. The louder horn does make a difference, the drivers who just don't give a stuff sit up & notice now, that IS for sure. Of course I have to admit, the added bonus, it makes this grumpy old git feel better....
