Sorry mate. My car has a ribbed tensioner pulley!
Is it actually possible to have a ribbed tensioner pulley? From how the belt is routed it should have the backside on the pulley not the ribs. Anyhow, do you think changing to a 1153 belt will be better and will ease the vibrations?

If you do research the belt length for a Punto mk2b 16v with A/C, you will have a million responses with different sizes and it makes it very tricky to decide. What is the OEM belt size?

Sorry about the confusing responses. It is pouring with rain here and the garage is full of stuff I am working on.

I believe my car originally had a 1145 belt. 1140 also works once you manage to get it onto the A/C pulley! At the time I could not quickly get the 1145 belt. 1153 is working OK.

What about pulley alignment? There are quite a few combinations of alternators and brackets for these 16V cars with A/C. Do you know the history of the car for replacement alternator and A/C compressor?

Does your car line up like this photo of mine?

I owned this car brand new since 2007 (0 km - 123,000 kms now). I have never replaced the alternator nor the A/C compressor. It has gone through periodic checks (oil changes, spark plugs, spark plug coils for once, timing and alternator belts).

No worries regarding the ribbed pulley mate. I know how it feels when you are hell of busy.

And yes, my car has the same pulley diagram as shown in yours.

Have you got the correct length belt? The only way the correct length belt goes on is by turning the tensioner pulley belt clockwise with a wrench and it is difficult to do it requiring you to be under the car and correctly positioned for the effort required to rotate the wrench. You can only do it from above with the long handled tool built for this job.

Take a picture of the tensioner from above and i will compare it to my 16v A/C car

Pretty sure the car system used in Finland lists two belts for my car but only one is the right length. They gave me both and I took the other one back.

According to my haynes manual the engine with Aircon is self adjusting, turning the tensioner (to tighten the belt) is under the description for Non Air Con engines

With A/C the belt is automatically tensioned via the tensioner.

Without A/C the alternator is moved to do a one time tightening valid for that servicing
Somebody who speaks sense!

Non ac is jusy crank and alternator

Ac have crank alt tension and ac

That looks like to me a stretched belt / lack of tension
The vibration like that is a worn bearing and or a flat spot on the belt

it can be done from above just little bit harder
socket wrench 13 and few long adaptors and then turning middle crank bolt to left- and holding belt with finger while turning socket wrench

Thanks Ziggy.

It makes sense to try with the belt first, although relatively new, but you never know it might be clogged by something or stretched.

Another update. On a cold morning, once I crank the engine, a squeak for 1 second occurs and then disappears. Also, the belt flops are more noticeable and louder on a cold start. Then, does this show it is more related to the belt than any pulleys?

Looking at your still picture and your video you have an OLD tensioner with a new tensioner pulley.

Well this is an old photo before installing the new tensioner. I only posted it to show the assembly of the belt and pulley diagram. I then ordered a new DAYCO tensioner (exactly the same as the OEM) and installed it. A minor reduction in flops was evident but it still existed.

When you start your car in the video the belt goes loose momentarily between the A/C and the crankshaft even though this section of belt is driving the alternator and ac pulley.

Why? not sure if that is normal. I can check when my wife comes home in 6 hours.

I had a look at my belt as the car was started. Sometimes the belt moved but it seemed much less than your belt.

Hey all,

I had the chance to get a new belt this weekend (the same brand and size as it was the one available (MITSUBA 5PK1145) and guess what? It seems that it worked. I am not sure if this is the permanent fix, but it worked fine and even on cranking the engine, the vibration was minimal (I will post a video to show it). Also, you can check the older belt image attached, which shows a crack on the backside of the belt.

I hope this is fixed and there is nothing major which caused the belt to crack. Thank you all for your input. Highly appreciated.

I will keep you posted if anything new occured.

Well I bought it new and it was never repaired. It seems like a manufacturing fault. These MITSUBA belts although licensed in Japan but seem to be cheaply made in Thailand. Let's see how the new one works.

Personally never heard of the brand
But id stick a conti belt on, or any other premium name as they have a name for a reason

All these cheap unknown branded parts do have weird issues like yours and all they do is kill other parts
