General lose of power steering

General lose of power steering

I had a Punto MK 2 (I've moved on to a 500 now) and the power steering died on me on the A1.

Unfortunately it was the power steering unit that had broken, and allegedly a common known fault on MK 2 Punto's. For me it was a £1,000+ repair bill

Hope yours is an easy to fix problem.

hi brendon,ok i didnt know you could remove it and it would operate in your hand.

il clean up connections and see what it does.

the relays, are they inside the motor or outside??

thanks jason(y)

Have one guess where they are:rolleyes:
Quite a bit of soldering to do and iirc a tx8 required somewhere along the line.
The motor spins fast or the steering is highly geared hence the load when it doesn't work.

ah right there inside the motor:)

il take it out and have a look,im handy with a soldering iorn.

il get car going with a new motor and when im bored in a few weeks time il open the dead 1 and have a go at it.

thanks for all the info.

thanks jason

yes i hope the 1k repair bill was over 10yrs ago.

i think that was in the days when you lost your red and blue key it was 2k to replace ecu/key etc now you just buy items for 50euro and away you go (y)

very good brendon, sadly you can get a tatty but driving punto for 50e(y)

i went to buy a steering motor today, and ended up buyig a nct failed punto sporting for 75e!!:) drove it home.

dont know what to do now, break it to keep family punto going,or keep sporting on the road??

sporting is well worn seat wise and body wise. but all there.

il 'borrow ' motor etc and see what happens.(y)
