Technical BIG PROBLEM! One side of engine has fallen out!

Thanks for the confirmation, I thought it was, at least it looked like it was looking at the slave itself.

that clutch slave spring clip is part of the bleeding system for the clutch.

Clean up the parts so the hose union slides in and out of the slave fairly easily. When the hose is fully in the spring clip fits in the slot. To bleed you pull the union out about 2 mm.

Some people have had to use a pressure bleeder on the master cylinder to do the clutch but never had that problem myself - once the union is out a few mm the fluid has slowly flowed out without pressing the pedal.

In thoery it should gravity bleed up and not have any air in the system at all....

Same principle when doing brake work where u replace a line or caliper.... gravity bleeding can remove alot of air without doing owt

Hi guys. Got the 'majority' of it sorted yesterday evening after work. New boot on the driveshaft, driveshaft is back in after much effort. *sigh* & finally engine is remounted with new engine mount, it is all looking straight, just need to fit the clips around the boot as they were a pain in the backside & I gave up with them & I need to reconnect the clutch line.

Heres the problem im having; it looks like the hose and just been pulled out by the engine falling, I can see it is a spring clip fitting, but there are no grooves on the actual hose termination, it sort of just slides into the slave and can be pulled out quite easily with no effort?

The end of it looks like this (photo attached)

Can someone help me here? I'm quite confused.

Thanks all by the way, first proper maintenance/repair I've done on to my car and you've all helped me out a lot. (y)

Does it look like the pic in post #6 of this thread and is the clip still in position ?
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057303720
It's just about visible inside in the red circle.
The hose won't go in with the clip still there.
Is there a groove on the end fitting for the clip to catch or has the end of the firtting snapped off and still in the slave inlet port ?
Don't try to turn the nipple.

must have broken off. There is a groove on the union for the clip to fit into. Normally you can see the groove appear in the slot where the clip goes once its in the right position.

You might be able to get the broken end out with a self tapping screw?

Hello all, again! *sigh* Latest update:

Been to the scrapyard today and pulled a clutch hose from a breaker punto, the donor vehicle was the exact same as mine, same reg (53) same model (Active), christ... it was even the same colour. Anyway, I come to swap them over and ofcourse, being a Fiat... the terminations are completely different!! I have no idea what to to get them swapped?! Can I take my stell piping out and take it to someone have the terminations swapped over and re-flared etc. blah blah?

Getting really f$$%%£ed off with this now!

Thanks in advance guys.

EDIT: The compression fitting one is the one I got from the scrappy. Also, can I take the whole steel piping out? Does it connect to the master cylinder? Maybe I could take it to someone and have the hoses changed over or something? Piping re-flared?

ive never seen a clutch pipe with a flared joint on it
go back to scrappy and get the slave cylinder and all the pipe to the master cylinder and swap it all out

Exactly what I was thinking, is it difficult to take out all of the piping? Does it just go to the master cylinder? Not even sure where that is. Sounds like a pain but I guess its the easiest thing to do.

Thanks for your input mate, appreciate it.

So, I'm trying to take the piping from a car at the breakers and I can't understand how I disconnect the piping from the master cylinder? Can anyone help, thanks.

On my car the flexible hose goes from the slave to the master. At the master there is a flimsy hair pin type clip.

On that one it seems you have a fairly solid looking clip that is going in the rectangular plastic

Chances of your master being the same seem a bit remote to me.

Ah you must have a newer design. I went to the scrapyard today and seen the same design as mine on a 52 plate MK2, only problem was I had no idea how to disconnect it, the pin wouldnt budge. It doesnt seem to budge much on mine either. I can pull on one side of the pin but the other has seized in place.

So there is hope, I think I can get hold of the piping, I just need to know how to disconnect that fitting. Should taking the pin out free it up? If so I'll try yanking it out.

Thanks for the quick response, really want to get this sorted now :(

P.s: Out of interest, does your flexihose connect to the steel piping by compression fitting? The other I pulled from the same reg as mine was compression fitting, completely different to mine

The connection between master and slave on my car is only a hose crimped onto the metal that slides into the master and slave. So there is no steel piping.

With that clip can you see where you can put a small screwdriver between the master and a hole in the clip to lever it out? Once it starts moving you can probably get at it with some pliers.

Will try that & get back to you. Thanks for your help mate.

SOLVED!! Just an update, sorry for not keeping you up to date, had a busy weekend.

Got it solved Friday afternoon. The piping was rust-fused to the master cylinder took a lot of pulling and twisting to get it out, got a replacement complete pipe for a tenner and fitted it in. Re-bled the clutch & cable tied the CV boot (I cant get on with them poxy cv clips).

All seems to be fine, glad to keep my little Punty going.

Just like to say thank you to all of you that contributed to the thread, probably couldn't have done it without the help.

Cheers!

Yes, you're right. Didn't really get chance to document it at the time because I was under pressure to get it fixed etc.

Will get some pictures up soon etc.
