H i all , my son has just bought a 2004 1.2 8v punto thats developed an issue when idling it is a little rough we have serviced it but no change , plugs are sooted , pluged a diagnostic in and it showed p0141 which we believe to be the down stream lambda sensor . we found the sensor to be loose so took it out cleaned it and replaced it but did not remove the fault so will get a new one to hopefully sort the problem . We did notice that the ecu light is not working when ignition is switched on so leads me to think someone has disconected it to hide our initial fault , i believe the ecu light is an led soldered in so is there an easier way the light can of been disabled ? thanks for reading Russ

lambdas on these are same for bank 1 and 2 so you might find it easier replacing by good second hand one to removing a front one as they usually come out
copy parts cheap in white bowes are best left alone
a new lambda quality might be £80
you cant really clean a lambda

with regard the management light yes im pretty sure its an led

to add the second lambda records that the engine is not running at optimum Stoichiometric and therefore is a guide you have a problem

If you have MES (multi ecu scan) there is an option to test the ECU light hahahaha

Im pretty sure tho - if an LED fails, the dash on self test should display display Error or words to the effect

LED's can and do fail, very rarly in the dash like
so it may have been tapped over on the board itself vs actually been removed

If you do decide to take the dash apart
Watch out - the Clear facia bit clips are EXTREMELY BRITTLE
they Do and WILL snap

Hi , we put a new sensor down stream but made no difference so replaced the up stream one with the one that was down stream and it now runs a lot better after a 10 mile trip . It does still run a little rough when idling occasionally and some times the revs jump up a little so may be after a few more miles it may clear , time will tell thanks for the input to this thread by members Russ

Looks like the fault is still present , if car has a 10 mile run its fine but go back to 1to 2 mile journeys it idles rough and mpg drops to around 20 , after reading posts on here and the net it looks more likely a new catalytic converter is needed so probably will try this next

did not think to go to mot station , to late now i fitted it yesterday and after a short run all seems ok no rough idle and feels to have better response from the accerator , fingers crossed , thanks again for replys will keep post updated

A week on and car seems to be running ok now thanks for posts Russ

No it still dont work but showing no faults on diagnostic so not looked into that any further , the diagnostic reader did not show a faulty or none working ecu light I dont fancy stripping the dash down as it looks a delicate job and knowing my look could cause more problems

As Ziggy pointed out..if you have Multiscan it can test the dash lights
