Hi .

Bought a Auto 52 plate punto I believe it to be a CVT box.

Symptoms are high revving and very little TORQUE.
And sometimes a flashing gearbox on DASH but clears when restarted until a few hundred metres cones back on.
I've changed gearbox oil with NG oil.as it was brown so obviously needed doing (3.6l)
But no difference in TORQUE.
Car does move but very slowly to build up speed. Uphill is an almost crawl scenario unless I rev the tits off it...
Reverse is fine however.

And ideas What to check next ?

Got error codes

P1709 clutch system - invalid signal from sensor

P0702 gearbox output revs - check wiring with rpm sensor.

Hope this helps

Verdict from Fiat Forum user Dave who knows about these boxes is they are quite cheap now and you should get another box to save messing around. These boxes have clutch linings rather than oil based torque convertors.

So. Unfixable?

It's also showing on engine diagnostics a lambda fault but no light on DASH... and had a power steering light on although was working.

Could it be a wiring fault. ? I cleared faults on gearbox and took it out.. only clutch related code has come back.

I've cleaned rear light cluster connections. And now got another error code

P1704 secondary pressure -

As Well as p1709 clutch system already mentioned in post.

I've been live monitoring the rpm of gearbox input and outputs.both seem very low and rarely show any data at all. I'd get a small spike of say 18rpm on input if I revved the car then put my foot on the brake. It would show for a second then go back to zero

If love data isjt showing an input speed when moving forwards... then its not gonna engage clutches....

It.maybe worth checking no wiring is damaged for the gearbox and that there is no rust/sloppy connections....

Failing that - id be looking to see if there is a replacement sensor availible
