hi i got my head gasket done last week, got it back on monday then it broke down on tuesday it turned out to be a bad earth but then it broke down again on wednesday same prob and it turned out the gearbox was misaligned so when i accelerated the engine tilted back and pulled the earth loose again.
when i got it back on the monday what i think is the ecu light was flashing
and now that it FIXED the ecu light is permanently on.

so i was wondering if it is infact the ecu light and is my car still fecked
the light looks a bit like an engine block with a line on top and to the side

the car is running great appart from the light:bang:

i didnt get a manual when i bought it so if any ones got a minute it would be appreciated if you could look up the ecu light for me

am i right in thinking that if it is the ecu/check engine light thats stuck on then that means that its logged a fault probably the crank shaft since the gearbox was misaligned

can i reset this by disconnecting the battery?

What year/model is your punto,is it automatic?

Depending on year & if the fault does not reoccur it might clear itself if the error counter is near zero, otherwise it will need to be plugged in to remove code.

sorry, its a w/2000 mk2 manual 1.2 8v

the cars running great thats how i think theres not anything wrong
its just a bit worrying no what i mean

hi just reading some other post,s one called (had to callout breakdown people) some thing to with injectors being blocked do you think i may have same prob

Ok the most common problem on engines after headgaskets being repaired is the lambda sensor, having been contaminated by the coolant passing through the engine. Replacing the lambda sensor is the best course of action. Alternatively if the head was skimmed and the plugs were not removed during the skimming operation this can cause intermittent misfiring during driving. TThe best option would be to have the car checked on examiner to see which fault codes have been stored. On some vehicles if the bottom pulley is removed (say for instance during timing belt removal) it is neccessary to carry out a phonic wheel learn procedure using examiner, without it being done the engine ecu sees misfires that arent really there because the pattern from the rpm sensor has changed. Lastly get the earth checked again. The earth on the punto box is a bolt with a thread coming out of the top. The bolt needs to be tightened fully into the gearbox and then have the earth fitted to the top thread and a nut used to tighten that. If it has just been tightened using the top nut then the bolt can come loose again.

i got the timing belt changed when the head gasket was done is the phonic wheel learn procedure not standard if not could you tell me roughly how much it costs

Scanning for codes & phonic wheel learn doesn't take long, shouldn't be more than half hour labour & easily done while you wait.Ask specifically for this to be carried out though & a code printout.
