hello my fellow fiat geeks ,
i have this idea of tuning my punto 188 1.2 8v into a rally car ,
and here are some of my main thoughts to do it .

1 FWD to AWD
i think its a hard work to do but is it possible ,
swapping the fuel tank and rest part of the AWD system of a panda 4*4 .
will it fit , i'm curious !

2 1.2 8v sohc to 1.8 16v dohc vvt
swapping the whole engine of a HGT with ecu , loom ,fuse boxes ect

those are my main quiz for the tuning idea ,
the rest is easy
please advice
thank you

Dont bother converting a 1.2 to a 1.8
Justbsyart with a 1.8

As for the rear axle - surly the punto is alot wider? So ur gonna have to get alot of custom parts made-to-measure

This could be a money if u ask me...
Ley alone insurance complications

Id just get a panda and slap a 1.2 8v in

Ziggy

Sounds amazing..but not for the road:) check out 'project Binky' on YouTube...they are building a awd Austin mini! Should either put you off the idea..or give you some ideas as to what is involved...lots of work:) anything is possible with money and knowledge:)

There's a video floating around YT with a guy who's seemingly fitted a Lancia Delta Integrale drive train and engine to a Punto, so it is doable. But it will take a lot of effort.
Easiest route = compare wheelbase and track width of any 4WD car out there, with the Punto, and find one that is close. This way you don't need to toy around with custom driveshafts etc.. That said, it's still a massive job. We had a one-week build off at my previous school, and some guys actually fitted drive train, engine and so from a Delta to a Cinquecento - but in the end didn't finish within the week.
That said, Fiat used to rally the 188 in the S1600 class back in the days - so there's body kits and all sorts out there. It's a decent handling car if you know how to set it up, even in FWD.

Panda 4x4-system is probably not capable of handeling the torque, which is another reason to look for other options (alfa or Lancia)
1.4 t-jet will give you a lot more tuning-capability than the 1.8-16v vvt. The 1.8 has ecu-limitations, which results in not many standard tuning parts and knowledge available, it can be done though, at a cost andere with trial and error. The t-jet has been tuned to well over 200hp multiple times.
