Hi,
I have a Fiat Punto Active MK2 1.2v
Recently, my car has had a full service and a head gasket repair as well as the timing belt replaced. I drive away from the garage in what felt like a brand new car. A couple of days later, i seem to be having quite a big issue. At 3000rpm, I lose all power. This happens every time without fail. Below 3000rpm, no issues.

Any ideas?

It seems like it is limited in some way?

Thank you both for your replies, i huess i will have to put it into the garage for this one. I was hope for something much simpler!

Thanks

its actually quite easy to get the belt one tooth out but it normally m,manifests itself as having a small hicup as you rev it up
im wondering if it needs the proxy align because belt not tensioned correctly

How much does it cost to have a new timing belt fitted? Please can eny one let me know ad be pleased to find out. My regards Phil Wood :)

1.2 8v is like 1 1/2 hours MAX

Is the check engine light coming on when power suddenly dies?

8v's rarely jump belts tbh, but it could happen if it wasn't tensioned correctly

Tbh - i'd get it back to him and get it rechecked
If he's dont a HG on it - he's had to remove the belt todo so

So you can pin it back on him

The belt itself is quiet cheap (belt and new tensioner - like £35 to trade maybe less)

But since he's done HG - which is odd as you didnt say why he did the HG

ziggy

When the revs hit 3000 rpm the engine warning light comes on, it returns back to idle where the warning light disappears and then i can rev it again until 3000 rpm then back to square 1.

I have plugged in diagnostics which shows no errors!

Its got to be if eml is on
Unless it just flashes

Carry out a basic phlonic relearn

Let engine idle uptill fan kicks in
Then rev engine as high as it can go (stab throttle)
Let it come to idle - repeat rev process 3 times

Switch off engine
Wait 5
Restart engine - has fault been cured?

A basic relearn aint as good as a full diagnostic reset

Thank you for your quick responses!
I will give it a try and see what happens.

In response to what you said previously, I had the head gasket replaced as water was leaking from the gasketand eventually it had some issues getting it going. I believe it blew entirely as i couldnt drive it without the car overheating. It became very sluggish.

I dont drive the car very often so its been around 3-4 minths since the gasket repair so i doubt i will be able to take it back.

The engine warning light turns off immediately when it drops back below 3000rpm so its on for about half a second when the power drops out back to idle.

Thank you for the advice!

I have this issue to, revs up to 5k for me, Eml flashes, engine then dies and revs to 5k again, believe it's just dumping fuel as it's gargling all the way down to idle, I haven't had my timing messed with though, so I imagine it's either over fueling or not enough spark?
