How efficient are your mk2s boys

My one is decent however I'm curious as to anyone with same year(2001) model(1.2GO) or mark (mk2) whatever what you get out of a full tank, which for me is around 48 now due to skanky prices of petrol And if I'm lucky I'll get 300/350 miles motorway driving and 200/250 miles city driving and that's all I'll get out of it out of it!! If not less!!
When I first started driving it I was getting a consistent 400 miles!!! Driving a mix of both types !!

So I'm curious as to whether it's just mine or everyone's :s

Re: How efficient are your mk2s boys

i get 55mpg from my 2000 punto 1.2 8v

thats motorway and light city driving, motorway driving at 60mph.

i have noticed with the punto and cento's i have, there exellent on petrol on long motorway runs,at the speed of 55/60mph.

but when you push onto 65/70/75mph the mpg can drop down to 40/42 mpg

intresting,it must be down to the gearing etc.

intresting to see what other members are getting.

there isnt much mpg differance between the 899cc and 1108cc cento's

hope this helps

Re: How efficient are your mk2s boys

depends on the driving..previous job i had a lot of stop and start (which ultimately killed the gearbox but thats another story)....and could and did use an entire tank full of fuel for just 120 or so miles...on a run i generally get about 65 to the Gallon.
It actually compares very well with the mileage that the wifes 1.4 diesel Corsa gets.
Best car we had for fuel use tho was Seicento...did a run from south wales to Port Meirion and back and still had fuel in the tank....worked out at approx 75mpg....

Sounds low and unless you have changed your driving style something has changed on the car.
Has anyone mentioned the T word yet ? Thermostat failure is a possible explanation.

Our 1.2 returns not less than 9 miles per litre on mixed driving and closer to 11 on long runs.

Re: How efficient are your mk2s boys

all intresting results.

do the mpg results vary with the spec and age of car,as in a 2001 1.2 8v uses a bit more than a later spec 2005 1.2 8v or 16v.

is there much of a differance between a 8v and 16v of the same year?

ive just noticed that my fleet are good mpg when just driven at the speed range of 55/60,and they just become thirsty when driven faster?

im not a rev merchat on the driving, and just keep a even pressure on the gas pedel.

one thing i have noticed on both the puntos/cento are the gauges are a little doggy when they get bellow the quarter mark area, sometimes ive run out as warning light has come on,and other occasions in the same car ive travelled up to 30/40mls before the dreaded chuck

as brenden points out it could be down to your stat is starting to stay open, running to cooler

I'd be happy with that! 300miles to a tank I'd be totally satisfied but as written above my readings on mpg are no more than 40... ever!!

Cheers

Yes Brendon we discuss this on a previous thread about my leak?
However leak seems to have stopped and haven't seen anything since!
Anyway, thermostat has been changed a month or so ago so it can't be that!!!

Thanks

Yes sir! Thermostat has been done really recently can't be that!!
I think when it comes to valves 8v would be better for city driving where as 16v (more valves) only really benefit you at higher speeds! Due to more revs and more hp !
However correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks

Re: How efficient are your mk2s boys

I believe 6 speed 6th and 5 speed 5th are same ration...

Its only 1st that gets a new ratio? Or something like that

Anyway
16v or 8v there going to be very similiar in mpg
Around town or on motorway
8vs can be quiet good full stop, 16vs arent as common as the 8v's

We have a 2004 1.3mulijet diesel 5 speed 107k
We only run it on good fuel Shell. we get around town about 52ish, on a good run it is amazing steady 60ish mph and it will average according to the onboard computer 69-72 which I can't complain about ever. It is regularly serviced using quality oil and parts. It did come when we bought it with very light weight team dynamic wheels although I have 195-50-15 Uniroyal rainsport3s on them (not the most fuel efficient tyre but great in the wet). I have had the 4 wheel Hunter alignment done so it drives straight as a dart. Suspension is only around 5k miles old.
Daughter has same car 53 plate not as cared for as ours gets around 47 around town she never goes further than her older sisters about 15 mile away.

Re: How efficient are your mk2s boys

Tracking is certainlynone thing
If the suspensuons in okay health an alignment will help alot of mpg figures

I slapped 2x new track control arms on mine before tracking... annoyingly it was because the track rod was seized onto the inner tie arm... resulting in me cutting it off....

But steering was alot better in the corners as a result
