I crashed my Mk2B the other day and had to remove the bumper and straighten up the car a bit as the driver side wheel was rubbing on the front lower bumper support. Now I put it all back but the bonnet will not lock. It stays closed and the safety locking mechanism will not release the bonnet but the bonnet cannot be fully locked. Any suggestion to tackle this will be appreciated.

Slacken off the catch..2 bolts..then do up just finger tight..slowly lower bonnet into it..

Then carefully release bonnet. Lift up and prop..then tighten the catch bolts.

remove the locking mechanism and then see it bonnet shuts properly and lights all fit
once this is done follow varesecrazy's excellent post
you will find that after the bump either the slam panel is raised or your bonnet is out of shape noticeable by creases in the swage lines
if all else fails slot the catch but do it in a way that it cant rip out if on say a motorway

Cheers, I'll give it a go now that there is some leads I can follow.
Yes the bonnet is closed but is not locked and will not open unless the release level is used. The bonnet will not lock when pressed down. So hopefully if I follow your suggestions I will be able to lock it.

Managed to close the bonnet. I loosened the two nuts that fix the locking mechanism in place. When doing this the locking mechanism will have a bit of movement to allow for some fine adjustment. I moved the locking mechanism as far up as it goes and then tighten the nuts back on. This was just enough to allow the bonnet to close.
