Haha oh dear !

It does seem yes, a bit like the revs drop a bit too low and then it quickly adds some revs to recover itself. Couldn't idle air valve have something to do with this?

After arriving home I opened the bonnet with the engine still running, I could see the engine visibly shake every few seconds, then I think it revs slightly to keep itself alive. At one point it sounded like it would definitely stall but it didn't.

Anyway that in itself wouldn't be too much of an issue, but I'm assuming (probably incorrectly) that it might be related to the main issue I have, which is the horrible judder when backing off the the throttle or using the throttle when it's only slightly open. Seems to happen at any speed but possibly more pronounced at low speeds. It feels like it has more to do with how close the throttle is to closed than speed.

Ziggy, your previous advice of cleaning the throttle body definitely seemed to fit. But since I've now done that, presumably well enough, I'm looking for some other hopefully easy and cheap reason for the problem.

Could anyone at least help me rule out any of the following;

1) Throttle position sensor
2) Spark Plugs / HT leads
3) Idle air control valve
4) Lambda sensor

I'll take the deafening silence as a no then !

Just remembered something else...

... There is no rubber seal on the airbox where the throttle body sits in. How important is this ?

i havent read any of your posts but i see you live in a cold region
the grubber seal stops cold air being gulped into the engine causing it to miss fire
it also stops foreign matter entering the inlet manifold thus into the engine and can cause severe premature wear of the engine,this is why air filters are fitted

Thanks, looks like it'll be a smart idea to get that sorted then although my feeling at the moment is that this isn't the source of my issues.

I'm feeling at the moment like it might be a misfire issue. Which means I'm probably going to spend money replacing all the spark plugs / leads before finding it's an injector issue or something else costing many €€€€€.
