Hi Ziggy .
Just a thought ..I wonder if the frost is zapping your battery?
Have you checked the battery volts when this happens ?
Code read getting u1600

I can crank for ages with main key and no start
Swap to the spare and the car springs straight to life without a flinch...

Its seriously odd how the cars suddenly stopped working with that 1 key or should i say that 1 keys suddenly stopped working...

Hi.
Got a timpson's nearby?
Perhaps take the ' moody key in and ask can they read it on there machine?..

A few years back I'd of not suggested timpsons but these outlets now seem to have become half
Decent..
They cloned a chip for me recently £20.

The chip in the key its like a ferrite rod with a wire round it will be losing output maybe due to age being dropped as suggested or even its a clone copy
I wouldn't let Simpson's sell me a shoelace even if I was considering hanging myself they have let me down and customers I've recommended to them in the past
Can't give a solution other than turning key a little slower so transponder pickup can read it if that make sense
time to buy a newer car anyway these punts are 10 plus years old now:eek:

That's right ,my car key has a battery in the key which can be changed. Could be that Ziggy 122's key battery now needs changing if it has one. It's a lot cheaper than reprogramming as a first option.

There are two functions in the key:
1/ Immobiliser transponder
2/ Remote central locking transmitter.

The battery powers the remote control only.
The immobiliser is Ziggy's problem and it does not have a battery, It's basically the same as the "microchips" used in dogs. Power comes from the radio signal used to "scan" the chip.

As said defo not battery related as i dint have a rcl key
I have a rcl fob seperate to my key (meta system)

I tried turning slowly / trying to get it to pick up they key to no sucess

For 20 off ebay for a transoonder balnk key and possibly 20 to clone my good one ill take that shot vs dealer/autosparky

Sure its now 13 years old... having 2 keys is never ever a bad thing that work....

I have a in branch timpsons where i work so ill ask if they can even see the transponder and how much to clone one....

Guess having a seperate rcl system is a god send right now

Its the CHIP in your key thats in question
..treat it like a barcode..
The cars scanner can read the other perfectly..so its down to the 1 key.

Only thing I would try . Get the car driven to another location..THEN TRY THE DODGY KEY

Its not unheard of for the signals to be blocked/interfered with.

Hi,
That's sound advice for remote door opening /alarm issues but the transponder chips are highly resistant to external interference as they are within the magnetic field of the reader coil.
Traffic master transmitters were famous for jamming some foreign car models remote fobs due to a difference in frequency allocation and licencing (and direct conversion receivers).

We had a european ducato driver who had..DEAD ZONES around cities where the vehicle stayed immobilised..
Hence the suggestion.

Timpsons were useless with my key too, they can't clone the transponders. My key was dodgy as all hell, someone had superglued the blade in after snapping it off, so I got a copy cut at a local cobblers but there's no space for the transponder. I'm having to ram the old key body next to the ignition so it'll bypass the immo. Utter garbage

In my case I'm just going to snag a spare off ebay and get it cut then transplant the transponder.

You can buy the transponder chips off ebay for a couple of quid, can't remember the model offhand, but you'll need someone to program your car to accept a new one.
