Apologies in advance for the long post....

I bought an X plate Speedgear on eBay. The description was pretty good, albeit brief:

"This car is for spares as it has an ECU fault. Only runs for 2 minutes so it won't drive away"

It started fine and drove onto my trailer and it started fine to drive off the trailer when I got it home.

I have some experience of Italian cars so I thought I'd assess it before deciding whether or not to break it.

Looked through the paperwork, it's done a genuine 57,000 miles, has two keys and a full service history. Plus it's MOT'd until December this year. On the basis that it made it to the MOT station and ran for long enough to pass the emissions test, I concluded the fault must be fairly recent.

Went to move it so my Mrs could go out and it wouldn't start. The CODE light stayed on.

I removed both battery terminals overnight and it started first time this morning and ran for a minute, then cut out and won't restart. On the first two attempts the CODE light was off but on the third attempt it was on.

Has anyone had a similar problem and if so, what was the cause?

Next job is to see if I can get my code reader to talk to it!

crank sensor wont turn on key code light

you got ecu or key chip or immobilizer ring problem

I think it may be both issues - it runs for a minute then cuts out, which suggests crank sensor, then won't restart. The code light stayed on after the third attempt last time with the battery and handbrake lights.

I can't get my multi ECU scan to talk to it so cannot read the code(s).

The seller told me the ECU was not original and it does look very clean compared to the wiring plugs. Needless to say I don't have the code card.

Since I am a Fiat novice, does anyone know if the immobiliser aerial wire around the ignition barrel is the same as Alfa? The reason being I've broken a few Alfas with functioning ECU/immobilisers so have spare aerial wires in stock. Is it simple to change?

Pic of the car attached, if my limited IT skills have pressed the right buttons.

if you think about it logically it cant be immobilisor because once it runs its should keep running
i would have said crank sensor too
but
without a proper scan it just stabbing in the dark so get your code reader working before doing anything
i said earlier this week but will say again,i always had problems communication on mes with 16 valve engines
these days i only use my crp129 its quick efficient and was a bargain when i bought it
