I went to drive my car yesterday after it had been raining non stop all night with heavy rain, and the car felt very hesitant and jumpy when accelerating.
It had been on charged all night using my CTEK Charger, so I know the battery was fully charged. Although when I started the car I noticed what seemed like an extra strong jolt when you start the car with a fully charged battery, more so then other times I've started it after being on charge.

I only drove it a short distance to the local train station, then when I came home it was still jumpy. I noticed it was a little better with City mode Turned off.

Any ideas what it could be? Some people I asked have suggested it's the Ignition Cables which might need changing. Others think it could be the coil pack. The car was totally fine last time I drove, it just seems with the heavy rain moisture perhaps got in?

I checked the engine bay and it all looks dry.

The leads are at least 5+ years old and I don't believe the Coils have ever been replaced.

Also its there a temporary fix that might help? I'm off work all week next week and could sort it out then but I'm working all of this week and by the time I get home it's too cold and dark to work on the car myself.

Some people have suggested spraying WD40 - others have suggested spraying silcon spray on the leads to help insulate them. Happy to replace leads and / or coils for new next week but this week very difficult.

Also how many coils are there in the Mk2 Fiat Punto Sporting 16V Year 2000? Some websites I look at show a single unit - some show 2 units.

BTW I've never had any issues ever starting the car, never had a breakdown, etc.

Hi,
it's possible there is SOME damp , and doesn't sound like the car gets properly warm on the commute..

the fact it appeared to run better with the PAS using less power COULD be a clue - however it may just've coincided with the engine getting al ittle warmer,

the coil pack is quite pricey on the 16V, plugs and leads too will be over £100

however if it's all 5+ years old its probably worthwhile if the car will be with you for a few more years..,

 IF you've hardly used it it may need a run / even just to get a tank of fresh fuel in it..,

(my 2001 Sporting still runs well - even after laid up for 2 months , had, plugs leads and coil last year..)

The rubber insulation on HT' leads dries out and starts to crack / break up
Causing an easy route to earth = No spark = Jolty / Hesitation

Often worse on Cold damp mornings as the damp moist air helps with the jump

Slap a new set of HT's and Spark plugs in - It'll help perlong the life of the Coil pack too

I just realised I never gave an update to my problem - New leads solved the problem.
