Hi,

My punto was giving me trouble starting a few weeks ago, turning on engine runs then stops and can't restart again. I managed it for a few weeks by revving the engine when I started the car and could get it to run. Now though it just won't start, I can't hear the fuel filter hum like I used to be able to. There are no strange symbols on the dash.

I think it may be the fuel pump relay needs replacing but I can't work out where it is. Everything I read from searches tells me conflicting F numbers that don't exist in my fuse box.

I've also tried to locate the inertia switch under the carpet on the passenger side but wasn't sure I found it. There were a few round button like objects but nothing that clearly shouted inertia switch.

I've taken the below photos, can anyone tell me where the fuel pump relay and inertia switch will be in the photos? Assuming I've taken a photo of the correct location!

Other things to know, the fuel pump is brand new from a few months ago, an incorrect diagnosis of the same problem. I tested the battery and it's read 12.1 volts. I've also hooked up another car battery but still can't hear the fuel pump hum.

Really hope it's as simple as the relay! Any other ideas are very welcome. Thanks in advance

Passenger side, inertia switch there somewhere?

Thanks all, should it definitely be that one? Is it possible to be in another location? If so, is there a way I can check?

Ok, I've swapped a relay into the space you indicated but still no luck. I also had a rummage around for the inertia switch where you pointed to but I couldn't find anything switch like. Any other options I can try to locate this fuel pump relay?

According to my diagrams the fuel pump is K46 which he has. its the second red relay on left handside see attached

Thank you. I've swapped in another red relay but I still couldn't hear the fuel pump whir when I turn the key in the ignition. Also checked the f22 fuse, no problem there.

Out of all options now, at least so I think. Can only be a more serious wiring issue I guess?

Is there anything else it might be before I get auto electrician after auto electrician to look at it?

Still don't know for certain if I've found the inertia switch...is it this thing at the back of the glove compartment?IMG_1476175971.182910.jpg

Found the inertia switch at last, had to pull the carpet right out and found a joystick like thing with a button on top, pressed it and it had no effect unfortunately.

I guess there's nothing else to check? Auto electrician now?

The pump is under the back seat, under the plastic cover with the 3 screws, so you can check the two thick wires for 12V and work out if the fault is the pump or a particular wire.

Thanks everyone for your help with this, I ended up sending it off to a mechanic who identified it was a dodgy wire to the pump. Changed and now starts. Pleased that I was able to eliminate all other possible issues before doing so. Cheers!
