General Exhaust Flange Nuts/Studs Size?

Ok so just replaced the complete exhaust system on my nieces 1.2 Punto Active (54 plate).
A simple job apart from where the system joins the down pipe flange. I was surprised to find the nuts were 12mm AF rather than the expected 13mm AF, plus when I went to replace the nuts with new ones I found the threads were not the standard 8x1.25mm.
So where do I get replacement nuts or do most people just drift out the spot welded studs & replace the whole lot with standard size (M8x1.25mm) bolts & nuts?

you are right about the nuts having a 12mm head but the thread is standard. m8 nuts from fasteners will fit. the studs are not welded in they just screw in too.

fine pitch quite common in cars (bear in mind that there are more than one thread pitch in ISO threads: coarse, fine, ....)

You can normally get them on ebay

Studs are spot welded on
A quick grind and they'll drop off / out

I stuck some nice high tensile stuff in afterwards

Hadn't realised I had not closed this thread off. In the end I simply knocked the old studs out & refitted some standard M8 bolts, nuts & washers. Exhaust was not only cheap (£42 inc clamps & gaskets) & dead easy to fit. Beginning to like this little car as all the jobs seem so simple & as it fits nicely in my garage don't have to worry about the weather.
