Hi all,

This is my first post so bear with me (y)

The heat shield on my wife's mk2b Punto has come loose yesterday and I have since found that three of the 4 attachments at the top have either sheared or the aluminium of the heat shield has corroded sufficiently that it is larger than the nuts.

Does anyone have any advice on how to remove the ceased nuts and what to replace them with? Are the fixings at the top of the shield different to to those at the bottom?

Thanks

I am pretty sure all of the fixings are 10mm studs or bolts. At the top 1 stud on the top left side and 3 bolts, From under the car 3 studs are easily reachable.. I was thinking all of mine were badly corroded but just with new nuts and very large washers it is as good as new. If you leave the same combination of studs and bolts it is very easy to replace the shield without having to line things up.

So looking at the attachments at the top of the shield, there is only one still attached with a large washer, whilst the other three are unattached. The top left appears to be a nut, with a thread sticking out the top, however it is really badly corroded and won't budge. The one top right, with the washer, is in a similarly poor state and I can't get it to budge either. The bottom left has a threaded hole, whilst the bottom right has a thread sticking out the top of it with no nut. Any thoughts on the best way to proceed?

Thanks for your help:)(y)

Mine got rattely... all heat shields made of that material degrade....

I had to heat the bolts up - wack a socket on over rust (impact)
Abd gave em a good swing
I think all but 1 came out without snapping

Failing that rip the thing off... cut any sharp bits off after

Sorted! !
