Last night I turned my key in the ignition and noticed straight away that while it did start, it seemed to struggle a lot more than usual. It was very obvious because 9 times out of 10 the engine kicks in almost instantaneously.
I stopped the engine and attempted to start it again but it did absolutely nothing: no clicking, no noise at all.

Info that may be relevant:
  • Doesn't seem to be the battery--the wipers go max speed with full beam on, no sluggishness or light dimming.
  • Checked the ignition fuse, that's fine.
  • Tried a rolling-start--didn't work.
  • The fuel injector light stays amber...

Any pointers guys?

That suggests to me a problem with the starter motor, however ...

  • Tried a rolling-start--didn't work.

that wouldn't need the starter motor to turn, which therefore suggests an issue with either spark, or fuel supply. The injector light being on means that the ECU has stored an error code, so get the codes read. You can get an OBD2 reader off of ebay for a few quid, and the free version of multiecuscan will point you in the right direction.

Did you check the Mass power cable just in case? Its easy to spot. On the gearbox facing front of the car, you can see it from under the car. Or Maybe corroded wires?

A sluggish start is caused by resistance
Either from the engines friction
Or from lack of electrical flow

its also worth mentioning
a weak battery can power Lights / wipers still, but not power over a starter motor

Ensure the battery is fully charged

You might find like i've done 1 or 2icce (i think flisko has too)
That the main power feed from the battery TO the starter and the 2nd lead that goes to the alternator

They Can - Do corrode
They overheat = Wires strands burn off = More resistance
Next start it gets the same till there is nowt left - POOF that little wire goes = No starting

Disconnect battery before doing this - but get the feed off - give it a darn good examination

Ziggy

An update to my problem here. I borrowed a friends obd2 scanner and got the follwing code: P0300
The book that came with the scanner has descriptions for the codes and it reads:
"Generic: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire"

Does that help any? :S
