Hi guys,

My dad and I were thinking about putting a 16v head onto my 1.2 8v block (2003 punto mk2)

My question is, are the blocks the same:confused:? I've looked up the bore/stroke and they're the same, the Compression Ratio however is slightly different (9.8 for 8v, 10.6 for 16v)

Will the head bolt onto my block? I've found a donor car so I'm considering it.

Thanks for the input :)

hi, :)
using the forums SEARCH function will give you all this and more;)

Hey :)

I've looked at those threads, but my question still remains. Now I know that the pistons would have to be changed too to allow for the valves.

I'm still unsure as to whether or not the bolt holes would line up. Does anyone know for sure?

Cheers :)

Better to buy other Punto with 16v to save hassle because the 8v have accelerate cable but the 16v isn't is work by electrically accelerates that control by ECU. How would you program your if your don't have ECU??

So what you're saying is my ECU isn't compatible with a 16v engine?

If I was to transplant the engine, wiring, ECU and dash clocks, would it, in theory, work?

I presume the 16v engine would just bolt into the 8v body, just the wiring and ECU is different? Am I correct?

I've found a few sportings going for next to near nothing, so if I transferred the lot, would it work?

It will start the engine if the ECU come with same 16V engine block but it's very likely to have full of error light on dash some have go through MOT. The ECU have different number of data to control different parts on the engine. It's not very simple to wiring up it will be impossible to do it on electrically engine. If it was mechanical engine of course you can but 16v isn't. It is not worth and it is going cost you money when something it didn't go successful. Then you get desperate don't want to put 8v engine back or scraped the car.

I have had problem done it before on my old Peugeot 106 1.2 8V want to swap to 1.4 16v engine block. I had trouble to wiring up and my auto motor electrical garage could not do it to clear error because all my dash light were like Christmas light. I had to put 8v back. It is was worst memories ever I never do it again!
If you buy car in future look or think about get bigger engine with 16v or more.
If the 1.2 8v is not enough power get straight exhaust, silent exhaust more flow, performance air filter, de-cat, I am not sure if can remap this car if it do something like 12% more power total approx. 85bhp with weight under one ton is fast enough for UK roads sorry in Republic of Ireland.

So there is nothing much more to help sorry.
