Posts: 224 Thanks: 1 Trader Rating: 0 ![]() | ![]() My driver's side electric window works perfectly. But my passenger side window has been playing up for several months now and totally stopped working a few days ago. What was happening was when I started the car and pressed the down button nothing happened but when I pressed up and then down it went down. Now it won't go up or down at all but I can hear a click as I push the button down. The battery is new, less then a year old and I charged the car fully last night using a CTEK smart charger before testing again this morning. I opened the passenger door and opened up the connection between the door and sprayed some contact cleaner into both sides but that didn't help. So I then took off the side of the door and managed to take off the motor and that worked fine, spun around in both directions. I then found if I put back the motor fully it didn't work, just a click, BUT if I screwed it in loosely the window then went down and then up, although at some points the window would stick going up and I'd have to manually have to give it some help going up. So any ideas what the problem is? screwed on tightly it's not working but loosely screwed on and the motor works and window moves.

You can tape the window to the top of the frame to stop it dropping, disconnect the regulator from the glass and the mechanism unbolts from the door. my guess would be a tooth missing of the drive cogs in the mechanism causing it to jam

If it may spring to life to ensure its fully up ![]() If the car rev's dip or lights dip when using it means its TRYING, but failing for some reason Could be a broken runner Could be a duff regulator could be a poor connection The only real way to find out - take the door card off and inspect it Ziggy

Posts: 224 Thanks: 1 Trader Rating: 0 ![]() | Re: Fiat Punto MK2 Sporting Passenger Electric Window Problems I was wondering if perhaps something might be out of alignment - My passenger door doesn't get used very often as I'm alone in the car 95% of the time BUT when it does some moron usually slams it shut - using way too much force. I have noticed that for some unknown reason sometimes the passenger door doesn't always close 100% correct, it's as if there's something touching between the frame and the door but when I check I can't see anything wrong visually, it doesn't happen all the time maybe 10% of the time I close it, I usually just try again and it closes correctly. Anyway's I've made a video showing the window going up and down - please note it never made the noise it does in the video when at the top just in this video with the motor loose.

When I first undid the screws that holds the motor in place I thought I saw white Lithium grease at first, I know in the past I had a problem with my windscreen wiper juddering because if grease getting inside the electrical contacts that drive the wipers .. I'm wondering if this might be another case of grease getting into the electricals?

Posts: 224 Thanks: 1 Trader Rating: 0 ![]() | Re: Fiat Punto MK2 Sporting Passenger Electric Window Problems Anyway I have a new problem - I went away for a few days and parked my car in a different part of town as I was meeting a friend to go off in his car to France for a few days, I've just come back and found the same passenger side door window shattered - I don't know if someone smashed the window themselves or it just shattered by itself - but nothing was taken from the car, Anyways what are my options? I need to buy a replacement passenger side window for the Punto sporting 3 door (mk2 W-Reg year 2000 model) - Black colour But my friend has suggested since the electric windows was playing up to perhaps buy an entire new car door with the glass and the electric motor mechanism. As quick search on ebay I can find replacement glass only for £20 with postage. Not idea how easy it would be to find a totally complete passenger side door in black and how much that would be.

Posts: 224 Thanks: 1 Trader Rating: 0 ![]() | Re: Fiat Punto MK2 Sporting Passenger Electric Window Problems I took apart the mechanism today - found that 3 teeth in a row were missing from the gears, they'd worn off, so once the pully got so far there was nothing to grip on to. I'm going to try and find some local breakers yards near me in North West London Area - I believe there's one in Wembley I've been recommended to try. But if anyone else has suggest please do let me know - I don't think I'll need to buy an entire door but I do see in some cases it's almost cheaper then buying a window + window Mechanism
