Just curious, can I swap the ECU in a 2003 MK2B Active Sport 1.2 L 16v without any difficulty or do I need to change the ignition barrel, locks and key too?

what seems to be the problem?

in order for the car to start, you cant only swap engine ecu, unless it is plug and play virgin

you need engine ecu, body ecu, inition barrel lock, key, and immobilizer ring

all door locks are optional, you can have 1 key to start car and other key for locks, unless you got remote central locking key is almost not needed

Do I hear spoke too soon:eek:

Haha. Not because of the misfire but because of this battery drain I'm having.

The only thing I can think it might be now is the ECU it's self. Who knows what's going on in there and something could be slowly draining the current.

Where can I get a virgin ECU for 65 pounds? I've checked eBay but can only find virgin 8 v units.

Thanks.

Better searching by code off the ECU , probably right though maybe 8v onlynever heard of one going causing a drain, you've definitely double checked the earth on bell housing.

Yup, cleaned up all the earthing points.
Have you parked the car in complete darkness to see if any lights are still on.
Remove the negative clamp at the vehicle battery post.
Place one lead of a test lamp on the negative post of the battery and the other on the negative clamp lug.
The lamp glows if there is a parasitic drain.
The lamp will be dead, if there is no drain.
Just read it is possible for an ECU to cause battery drain.

Turned out be power steering ECU

that battery drain of yours, did you do parasitic test?

To do this, set your multi-meter to “amps”.
Disconnect the positive battery terminal. Connect the negative probe of your multi-meter to the battery terminal connector and the positive probe to the actually battery post...

I have done this and the multimeter shows no reading. I'm guessing it must be too small to detect? The guy in that thread was showing some drain with his power steering problem.
