When I bought my 53 plate punto (facelift version) - it hd a nasty old sony stereo in it that didnt work very well. We replaced it with an MP3 stereo and after a few weeks of it causing random dash lights to come on, we found that by taking the fascia off and pulling the unit out a few inches seemed to stop the problem.

We've used it like that for a year now! Anyway we've decided to sell it and buy a bigger car so I bought a factory standard used tapedeck from ebay but when we've plugged it in it permanently says Cancheck.

Can anybody help with this or is it hopeless? I've read several threads that say there's a little yellow comnnector that will help it work, others seem to think it will only work with the original code-matched car. I just want a working stereo to put into my car before I sell it. With thanks

It's possible that the previous owner disconnected the 2 CAN wires when fitting the non standard radio. Check if you can see the 2 wires (probably 1 black/pink and 1 white/pink) hanging loose behind the radio.
.

The CAN wires should be on the power connector (ISO A). Check the wiring label on the radio.
