Take the rocker box cover off and clean it thoroughly with brake cleaning fluid, then dry it off on an old towel. Also clean the mating surface on the block using cloth with cleaning fluid.Purchase a tube of black RTV silicone, spread a thin bead as evenly as possible along the mating surface of the cover. Only do this to one surface and it can be done on top of the gasket. It is helpful to put a small additional bead of silicone in the angle each side of the mating surface at the camshaft output ignition coil end and at the sprocket end. Replace cover and tighten down evenly, not too tight - I think it is only about 8 foot lbs.
I agree with OP that oil consumption is not excessive. While some loss is due to leakage, some will be due to normal use, vaporised and burnt in the cylinders. Oil control rings don't entirely stop oil from entering the combustion chambers. If you check the engine oil level on a regular, on going basis, you will get the most accurate picture of the engines consumption and the oil level will never go below the critical mark. Anywhere between the min and max level is acceptable, though never fill beyond max and preferable level is just below. Make sure you have the car on level ground when you check. The road camber can make a surprising difference to the apparent level of oil in the sump!
