Hi all,
I drove my car home and now can't start it.
Fiat punto 2004 1.2 8 valve
Well it turns over, I have spark but the fuel pump doesn't start. I checked and there is no power to the pump. So I think the pump is OK. Is there a immobiliser? My key is not remote control. I have to open the driver door using my key (there is a central locking).
The owners manual shows a petrol cut off switch but there isn't one on my car. So that is out.
I have checked all fuses and no joy there. It may be a relay. I swapped relays around ( red ones with red ones and so on). No joy there too.
I read another article which the earth wire to the inlet housing was the problem. I checked that too, but no joy.
So the only thing I can't check is the immobiliser. It seems the immobiliser has kicked in. Do anyone knows how to reserve mine? I also can't read the ECU as my code reader can't read Fiat ECU. So if anyone knows a brand of an ECU reader which I can buy, please let me know.
Can I hot wire the pump? Would I do damage if I continually run the petrol pump so I can take it to an electrician?
OMG so many questions ??
Please help:worship::idea:

The pump normally runs constantly once the engine starts. The two power wires for the pump are purple and yellow for + and purple for -.

If you turn on the ignition you only get 5 seconds when the pump will run to test those wires. Have to turn off and then on again for another 5 seconds. Normally you will hear and feel the fuel pump relay in the engine fuse box click upon ignition on and after 5 seconds.

My fuel pump relay is T10. Some cars have that missing and then it is the one next to it nearer the front of the car T09

Hi
I just checked I don't get any power to the fuel pump at all.
I also checked, I don't have any relay at T10. There are one either side which didn't make any noise.
I will try to put some direct power to the pump just to see if starts.
Cheers

I am interested to know what you find. On a thread here 2 weeks ago forum member Italian Job showed a wiring diagram that said if you have a spark then the relay T09 works and is feeding fuse F22 when feeds both the fuel pump and the injectors and coil packs. Something sounds odd or different if you have a spark and the relay does not click.

I am also interested to know if you really do not have the inertia switch? Your pump runs continually once the ignition is set to start. If you crash the pump would carry on pumping fuel to the front. You need to pull back the carpet a bit to find it.

Hi,
Today I connected my fuel pump directly and the car started with no difficultly. However what I noticed when I ran the car for a while it kept on dying but as soon as I turn the ignition off/ on the car runs fine. I also went for a 10 minutes drive with no problem. So I am going to try to run it for a bit longer distance tonight and will report back.
Cheers everyone.
