Does anyone know if a 063 Battery will fit in the batter compartment of a year 2000 MK2 Fiat Punto Sporting?

Most websites where you enter your registration number tell me I need to buy a 002L / 202 car battery but EuroCarParts lists those plus a 063 Battery.

063 Batteries seem to be quite a bit cheaper to buy then 002L / 202 car batteries but they appear to be longer in length. Don't know if the listing on the website saying it will fit is just a mistake.

I bought the 063 battery in the end - it appears to fit fine in my Sporting MK2 - although there is a gap at the top between the battery and the metal holder but it's pretty easy to put something inbetween the two to hold it snugly.

The new battery read 12.69V upon arrival.

I gave it an initial charge using my CTEK Charger for around 6 hours, then took off charge and left battery to rest 14 hours and reading 12.75V which is a lot better then my old battery which probably would have dropped to around 12.40V in the same time.

After 24 hours at rest it was reading 12.67V

After 3 days resting with the car not being driven it's reading 12.60V - I seem to be loosing about 0.03V a day

Does a daily drop of 0.03V sound about right? I have added an after market radio but we also installed a kill switch to cut the power to the unit - although it does still seem to power the flashing LED light that's supposed to deter thieves.

BTW what do people think about installing one of those solar chargers?

Do they harm the battery in any way? I'd bought one from Maplins made 10+ years ago and never gotten around to fitting it and because the Fiat Punto cuts off the cigarette lighter when you turn off the key I'd never even used it.

I mainly work from home so I barely drive my car - on average less then 2000 miles per year - and even then just short trips locally.

I'm happy plug the car into the CTEK charge whenever it's needed. But ideally would like to just get into the car and be confident it will start every time.

Here is a link to the best battery supplier I have come across - it is for a Punto not Sporting - but the company advises according to model and gives extensive information about size and fittment. They delivery next day in sealed packaging and their service is second to none. They are not the cheapest but they do offer excellent value for money!
