Hiya I've been trying to fix the heater blower. Changed resistor texted motor works fine . Bridged wires through multi plug.still no power. Checked all 7.5 amp fuses in drivers side. ...

And now I been doing all that the bloody airbag lights have come on... all help appreciated.

I've disconnected battery while I goto work to see if it goes off...

Heater blower is coming off one of the red relays in the engine fusebox on the side next to the left hand wheel. T08

OK. Found another fuse blown 10 amp. F08. Replaced fuse for another 10 amp. Blew right away. Put a 30 amp in and is working fine.. but something must be making it blow the 10amp... and the junction box I removed

Was just merely saying there is obviously a fault. As only way I could get it to not blow was to add a high amp fuse... any solutions as to what that is would be appreciated.
Still no joy on airbag either...
I hooked it upto laptop with vag kkl cable and can't connect to the airbag ecu. May have to take it to get it read and cleared. See if that does the trick...

Ah multi ecu scan .. yes using a free downloaded version. Can only connect to the engine ecu.
Using the picture above is position 2 showing a number 3 the correct switch to use for airbag ecu?

The correct fuse for the heater motor on a mk2b is the 30amp F8 on the engine fuse box, where F8 is the supply to the R08 relay which goes directly to the heater motor - Haynes.

otherwise...............

Mike can you confirm the heater motor will run with a ten amp fuse in line with your jumped wiring?

12 * 10 is 120watts. If the fuse blows with the motor switched off, and only 10amp flows that is more heating than a 100w mains powered light bulb. Something must be getting very hot in your car. You should be able to find where that heat is coming from.

If you have a garage or a sheltered spot I would imagine you can find that heat source just by putting your hand here and there. A better solution would be a cheap pencil radiation thermometer.

No it will not run with a 10 amp in place but it will hold 10 amp fuse until heater is switched on.then it blows instantly.
