Hey all,

Basically my MOT is due soon so decided to have a quick check over the obvious failing points which revealed a rusted and outer skin peeling exhaust box, so I was wondering if you guys could advise whether or not this would result in an MOT fail or not? (see attached pictures).

Thanks

Mine was exactly like that and passed. It was shown as an advisory.
It will only fail if holed or excessively noisy because of the corrosion, I believe.

Usual suspects are where the pipe goes into the front of the back box and close to the flexible part at the front.
If you jam a rag against the tailpipe the pressure should be enough to blow it off , or at least want to. If you can hold the rag on with no big deal it suggests the exhaust gas isn't bothered because it has found another way out.
I reckon the box is a 50:50. If the tester decides a bit could fall off he will fail it.

Do you think I can use Waxoyl Rustproofing for Cars for exhaust?

Only if you want to lay a smokescreen

The high temperature of the exhaust will burn waxol off, don't use it. There is nothing much you can do to protect an exhaust once it's started to rust.
