So I bought some new MK2b rear lights. Fitted them and quickly noticed the light out warning on the display.

Turns out it was the top bulb on the rear lights drivers side. Everything else works fine back there. Removing that bulb it appeared to be blown so there is the problem i thought. I still have my stock lights so replaced the bulb using the one from my previous set which doesnt appear to be blown and worked fine before the light swap.

installed it, put the light back and....still out. Then I think perhaps there is something up with the board that holds all the bulbs so again swap out my previous lights board into the MK2b lights thinking that could solve the problem. Light is still out.

So at this point do I buy a BRAND new bulb and potentially come to the same conclusion or have I done enough testing to safely assume that its a wiring issue in the car and not a problem with the lights themselves?

Like I say everything else works on that light. Breaks, indicator etc.

IF the fuse checks out fine, check the wiring in the plug

Sometimes the clamp like terminals inside spread and as a result either cause poor connections (dim or disco lights) or it goes open circuit (dead)

There was no major change from mk2 to mk2b lights
Except it went from a clear bulb with yellow lens mk2 to a yellow/orange bulb with a clear lens

Yes mk2b lights are much nicer on the eyes - euro look wise
