I hope someone can help me because Eurocarparts made me annoyed because of this:
My gearbox was half empty of fluid, I felt this when changed gear.
Went to local garage, and changed the old MTF to Tripple QX 75W-80, as they system gave this. (2 litres came out, 4,5 went in..)
It became perfect when the gearbox gets the proper temperature - but when it's cold, it's very stiff. Many times can't put into 2nd, 3rd, 4th for about 20 mins until the oil becames warmer.

Found out, that the Tripple QX is semi-synthetic, and I think my car needs full synthetic (haynes mk2 service manual shows Syntetic based 75W-80 etc....)

The thing is obviously they won't refund me (tried to complain), but I am worried about spending 40-50 again and maybe I choose the wrong oil.

Questions:

Thank you in advance

How did you fill the box? You've not over filled it have you?

4 liters of gearbox fluid? which car you got

as 1.2 8v and 16v take 1,7l
1.8 hgt and all diesels take 2l

Local garage ("repairman" or how to say sorry for bad english) did it, as Eurocarparts sent 5 x 1L MTF for 36 quids.
I was there all the time, he toped up until the extra spilt out.

Sorry, should wrote - Punto Mk2 03 1.2 8v 5000000 (as far as I know all parts are same as a normal one) - I see the amount came out was around 1,5-2L, so probably 1,7 came out.

I hope this is the problem, so it won't cost any to solve it so shall I just empty a bit more than 2l-s?

if 2 litres came out your gearbox was full of fluid, perhaps problem lies somewhere else than in fluid but rather in gear linkage cables or maybe in gearbox itself

also autodata states you should put in 75w/85 semi synthetic

Many many thanks! Excellent, wonderful, gearbox is like new! Took out the filler/level plug, 2-2,5l came out.. have put the plug back and it's perfect when it's cold and warm as well.

What I don't understand why Eurocarparts sends 5litres of oil to the garage? I believe that the gearbox's capacity is about 4.5 litres. But that doesn't mean the gearbox needs 4.5. Anyone can explain why they are/their system retarded? :)

Thank you for all of your help!

Your mechanic is an idiot, he should know this stuff...

For all cars you fill it until it is at the level of the hole and it starts to leak out.

Thats pretty much the rule of thumb yes

I've been using the tripple X Euro car parts stuff with no issues yet

If he put more then 2Litres in - then yes it'd make it very stiff, as your linkage and internals have to move excess fluid to make the selection
Not only the stress it'd be puttin on the input and diff seals, which is just bad news tbh

Yes, real idiot. Filled all he could through a pipe pointing up about 20-30cms of the hole. So by physic law the level he could fill was way too much above the hole. He pulled out the pipe and screwd in the plug straightaway..

Anyway - I couldn't tighten the plug fully (my hand was full of oil as it was blasting out when took out), I can still see 2 thread of the plug. Shall I tighten it or can leave it like this?

maybe they ran out of 1 litre bottles, did they atleast give you back what was left of those 5 litres

He filled in 4 x 1 litre, and almost all of the 5th bottle - I was there all the time - I should have checked before I let him do it.. I couldn't imagine he didn't know - so far he made good jobs for cheap, but can't imagine this was an "accident". He said he put in the 5 x 1l bottles because Eurocarparts supplied the 5 bottles to fill all the capacity of the gearbox - what is supporting the case of "accident", that he said what car you have? never seen any cars taking 5 litres of gearbox oil..

Anyway, he should have known to drain down the extra after filling..

there is no chance he filled in that much through filler hole unles car was like this

there is - physics law if the filling hole (his filling pipe's hole) is above the whole gearbox, he can fully fill the gearbox's capacity.

With the car level you should remove the filler plug again and let any extra oil drain away until it is at the bottom of the filler hole, after that I'm sure the plug will fit in correctly.

was in good hole. no worries, dry hand i could tighten it. Thanks for all help
