Hi, First time on this forum so sorry if this has been asked before.I am having problems starting my 95 1.1 55sx. The key code light is either remaining on or flashing intermittently as is the injector light. The engine spins and will start one time in 50+ attempts then runs with the keycode light on permanantly.I have changed the outer ring on the barrel with no change to symptoms. Ihave spoken to a company that can supply code free ecu's for about £200 which will bypass the imobiliser cct but do you think a diagnostic test would be advisable first? (my nearest Fiat dealer is 10 miles so quite a long tow). Someone has also told me that as I have tried starting with the red key I may have corrupted the code, is this right?

if you do need a new ECU then don't spend that kinda money on one. as far as i know, the punto ECU is the same as that used on the cinq sporting. the engine is the same anyway. there is a guy who has developed a performence chip for these engines that also removes the imobilser. they cost £40 i think.

Try removing the ECU wiring harness, and cleaning up any dull looking connectors and then put it back on. It might just be a dodgy connection somewhere.

Hi there,

I know this is an old post but I have exactly the same problem - did you ever fix it or try a new or uncoded ECU?

Thanks a lot,

Russell

i have the same problem on my 2003 1.2 8v, uneven tickover and seeming as though its only on 2 or 3 cylinders. So many thanks for the advice regarding cleaning connections on the ecu, you mentioned getting a new one for £40, have you a website ? again many thanks.

He was talking about some kind of performance chip which elimates the immobiliser and that was 9 years ago. Never heard of it. Another ECU will be 100 pounds plug and play or you can do it DIY if you get an identical ECU and spent days messing around to copy the software over to the second hand unit.

So.......first thing to look for is the coils and plugs for sparks on all plugs. injectors going bad. various wiring possibilities. Possible head gasket problems.

Or just splash out money here and there and see if you get lucky, depending on your wallet size or inclination to fiddle and learn.
