Hi,
I couldn't help but notice that there is a cruise control light on the dashboard of my 188 1.9 JTD.

Is it possible to retrofit the cruise control (lever?) to it and if so, can it be found cheaper than 200 quid for the entire assembly?

Years ago you'd just add the buttons and a throttle actuator, with the Punto however the cruise control is controlled by the engine Ecu taking over the throttle function (fly by wire system) so you'd need the controls and the wiring through to the engine Ecu. You would likely need a clutch switch if your car doesn't have one. Then you'll need to program the canbus system to accept that cruise control is present and get it all working.

Also I should point out that without factory cruise control fitted that light on the dash is probably not connected.

JTD is Fly'er-by-Wire, so no throttle actuator.

I'm not sure how it is with the Punto, but all Alfa 147/156 and Lancia Lybras have the wiring by default even without the factory option: Add the stalk and off you go.

I found some PDF describing the cruise control, though: http://www.autoextrem.de/attachment...t-fiat-punto-188-cruise-control-steuerung.pdf

Judging by this:

...it would even fit the 147 lever (with some hacksawing), if the cable is present.

Simply take out the 4 screws that hold the bottom steering column cowling in place and take a look for the connector plug.

Having owned one of the very few puntos (a mk2b HGT) which had cruise control, which was always going wrong I know very well the wiring route used and the various connectors, I've also not seen another Punto which does have these connectors

I'll have a look to see if our 2001 sporting does.. I noticed it was all listed in my last MES scan of its ECU;)

I didn't get around to look for the plug, but I got an error in MES about the clutch sensor, which is strangely is indeed present even if there was no option for a cruise control in the 188(a) at all, and contrary to the first post, the dashboard doesn't have an LED for it either.

However, if the plug is not present, https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo-guides/55049-cruise-control-installation-gars7.html#content_start might still be an option, at least for the JTD as the Stilo had the same 80HP engine.

I'll let you know how that goes.

Hi there, I have a Punto mk2 restyling (bigger lights) Dec 2003. It is a JTD 1.3. The manual describes hot to use the cruise control, for those who installed it. Does this mean that it may be possible to add it? Thanks very very much.

Theoretically possible but if non of the wiring is there (which it won't be as no uk 1.3 diesels had cruise control or even the option so I'd be surprised if the French market did as you guys seem to get more poverty spec cars than the uk^) then you will need to wire the whole system from scratch and then get it electronically coded in to the ecu for it to recognise it and work.

^except for French cars sold in France they tend to be very high spec, I've been in many Peugeot Uber's around Paris and they are all still high spec.

Check for the purple plug under the engine fusebox (remove the fusebox cover, undo the clips on the right and the fusebox will lift). If it's there, then it can be fitted.
