New to this site and new to Fiat ownership. Just purchased my Punto and I noticed it was running a little rough on idle and lacked on power (not that it has much of it anyway:p). So I've changed the plugs, leads and air filter which brought back the power part but it still idles a little rough and smokes slightly out of the exhaust.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Sam.

Sounds like engine not fire in the right order, and some unburn fuel come out exhaust white or light grey smoke.
Worth have check the cambelt sensor

My old Punto 1.2 8V long time ago running very rough on idle and it can't keep smooth around 900rpm, I went replace HLT but nothing improve and try replace the cambelt timing sensor the problem was solve.
Good Luck(y)

It's more of a white/grey colour and only really comes out if you boot it in 1st or 2nd. I'm certain I can smell petrol on the oil cap too and the car still runs lumpy on idle

Still not solve the problem yet. Right
Smell petrol in oil sounds like engine block manifold gasket is little leaking mixture fuel straight to holes and back bottom of oil sump or one of those piston ring is worn fuel/oil go in cylinder and burn oil come out white smoke and continue leaking down below cylinder head to the oil sump that is why you smell petrol. When lose on compression ratio because of worn ring makes the engine run lump because not enough power to rotation the engine
Only one more thing is get engine compression test gauge. Screw each spark plug turn the engine over without fire and write it down the pressure number and look in car manual book for correct pressure if it is lower than it said need engine overhaul maybe take to the garage if you can't do it.

If funds allow, I'll take on the task of either rebuilding the engine myself or just buying a new one and swapping them over!

My local scrappy would sell one for £50, but never had any in :( - no warrenty either

Ended up paying £150 and a long trip to find a decent 2nd hand (half my mileage) and with a warrenty

ziggy

I shall give a few of my local scrappers a call. Many thanks
