Hi,
I wonder if someone can advise me. I'm in the process of changing the front springs and struts on my (2004) Punto 1.2 8v

I ordered the kyb struts and Springs and the large rubber top mount.

I managed to get the passenger side off today - but I noticed there was additional things on the existing spring which I didn't realise that I needed such as a upper spring cup (which is rusted) and also what seems to be a 24mm nut holding the rubber mount on the strut.

Do I need to take these off the existing struts or should they have came part of the new equipment I bought and are missing?

Or, do I have to purchase them separately? if so can somebody please point me to the right place.

I have to admit that 24mm nut totally threw me off as I only have ring spanners up to 20mm - I'm really annoyed - as I was on a roll and then I discovered this and then it started raining.:bang:

That's correct the bolt in the engine bay is 19mm - I managed to get that off ok - but once I took the whole strut and spring out there was what seems to be a 24mm nut holding the rubber mount to the strut.

I have no idea what I need to do

I do have compressors - but do I have to reuse the big nut and existing cup on the old spring? - or do I need to purchase new ones?

And I guess either way I need to get a new 24mm ring spanner.

Ok, cool

I will go about taking them off in the next day or two and fit them on the new struts.

Hopefully the weather will get better

Hi Everyone,

Can someone please tell me what this rusty metal plate is called -as shown in pics 1 and 2 - and where can I get a replacement?

Also, I have triend compressing the coil and used an allen key and 27mm wrench and can't for the life of me take this top nut off - can anyone give me further tips - or am I better off purchasing an impact wrench.

Cheers,
CM

I tried with a breaker bar - ring spanner - but the whole strut spins with nut as well as the whole strut assembly - need some sort of vice to hold it.

put the nut from other strut on the threaded end, back to back as lock-nuts,

then put spanner on the outer one as you undo the 27mm one,

should hold it enough to undo things;)

do get the compressors on 1st though (y)

I did a guide in panda section - may help..,:)

Cheers Varesecrazy for that idea about putting the extra nut on the strut.

Just called Arnold Clark Fiat Parts and Accessories here in Glasgow - asked about the 'Spring Cap' and 27mm Nut - £13.90 and £3.25 inc VAT each respectively.

So I'm going to purchase these and hopefully get them in the next day or two.
