I helped fix a friends punto which had a failed gearbox selection. The gears would not go in from within the car. The gear selector just seemed stiff or not to select any gears. Under the bonnet You could put the car in gear.
I found out it was a common problem where the gearbox cable linkage. One of the cables brakes.
I put a video up on [ame="http://youtu.be/pCsw37XvNXU"]youtube[/ame] and wonder if it is ok. I would really like some comments on what more could I have done to make it easier for someone to follow. Or that it could help others in some way. If you feel some thing would have helped you I would appreciate your comments.

Showing how the gearbox linkage cable was replaced and removed from a Fiat punto 1.2 active. The video was taken after I removed the battery box with three bolts in the bottom. The clips were removed from the cable at the top and bottom. A new cable was sourced on eBay part no FIAT PART NUMBERS 55194774 & 55194775 or 55234098 & 55234099. I called the supplier and gave the number from the cable. Always best to check that you get the right cable for your model. My cable that broke was the nearside cable that changes front and back on the gear stick. Part number 55194775 from fiat. Check which one has broke on yours.
