Dunno if this is too late..... BUT.... yes there is a way! Involves some mods on your gear selecter lever tho. If you take off the gear surround and leather trim bit, you see that the lift up reverse just lifts up an extended bit of the plastic. if you cut this extended bit off then there is no need to lift up the gear lever to put it into reverse gear. i tried it on a mates one and it works fine.
