hi
i have a punto 1.9 jtd year 2001. yestarday for the first time the car started to cut off. the car was run fine as usual but after 3 mile the car cut off tried to restart and would not start. called rac. when guy come the car started could not find any faults on the computer. the battery was low so he advice me to change it. i purchase new from him £110. then i started the car drove another 3 miles car cut off again no warning lights. it restared after few minutes. drive about 500 metres cut off again would not restart. after 1 hour rac come and the car started. at first no fault the after the car was on for 5 minutes. punto camshelf sensor error.he checked the time belt to see if was lose, but he say the tension is fine could not check the cam sensor because he says to difficult to reach. he cheched connection under the ECU all connectors and everything was fine. i drove the car for 2 miles to get home the car ran perfectly no cut off. this morning started the car left on 20 minutes car ran ok no cutting off.
now never had this problen before and the car sound perfect. would this be the crackshelf sensor? which gives the wrong timer reading? or it is the cam sensor? because the car cut off after few miles then seems to restart after a while. if is the cam sensor how much would it cost? because i changed the timer belt a year ago and paid £250. the belt need to come off do i have to replace it again? please any advices before i go to a mechanic tomorrow?
thanks

thanks for replying. so you think that is it the crank sensor and the camshelf sensor?

Classic - Sensor gets hot, it fails due a break in internally

Cools the connection is re-made

The Camshaft sensor may pick up a fault because its getting a signal when others aren't - so the ecu may think thats at fault

I'd say it meets the classis CRANK (or crank angle or RPM sensor)

hi
just want to say thanks for the help. today i changed the crack sensor. then put the computer did not show any errors . then i drove the car for a hour doing motorway and traffick about 40 miles no problem. then once the car was hot enough computer on again no fault. i hope that the crack sensor solved the problem. tomorrow i will go to brighton hope everything will be ok.
thanks again
