Hi everyone,

So I took my Punto 1.2 Active 04 plate to the garage and told them about the issues. Now my friend fixed the car for me and I definitely trust him! He had to replace a coil on my suspension as it had part snapped. I told him about the issue but he couldn't find the problem.

Basically when I'm sitting with the car on (either in gear with clutch down or in neutral) the car revs up and down. It revs from about 500-1100 continuously until I Rev or move off obviously. Now there isn't any loss in power and it sounds like the engine will cut off but it never does!

Has anyone got any solutions or ideas as to what it could be? If I can try anything to resolve it please give me some ideas on where to find the parts and how to access them on the car, I'm such a novice with cars lol.

All help is appreciated!

Sam.

I've heard of this before but never as low as 500rpm. With my own I find it will range from 750-1000rpm when in traffic (moving off and stopping) . Sorry I can't offer any solutions.

It's most likely the idle control valve. You can try cleaning it out, but it will probably not help. If it does it all the time, you need to replace it, as it will obviously not pass MOT with an uneven idle.

Hi guys,

Firstly thanks for the replies and here is the outcome so far...

I got my mate who's a mechanic to take the throttle body off and rinse it clean along with the inlet manifold, all sorted looks like new and runs a lot better performance wise. We did notice however the revving issue didn't stop. So he took the top of the air filter off and played around using process of elimination.

After 10 mins he has worked out that there is like a pin thing that moves across slightly when the car revs normally and on its own when the revs jump it seems this pin is moving out and in constantly.

This is what we have worked out to be the problem. Another test to prove this was disconnecting the power to this sensor (whatever it is) resolved the issue.

If you guys have any idea of what the pin thing is it would be helpful but either way not key!

My next question is because I don't want to keep bothering my mate at this time I am wondering if when I buy a second hand throttle body will I need to get it programmed to my ECU??

Kind regards and thanks for all the replies prior!
