Greetings all,

I have a 1.9JTD punto from the year 2000 and i recently noticed a problem.

One day on my way to work i noticed that the engine light had turned on and off ( just for a couple of seconds ) twice on that ride.
I didnt noticed nothing different with the car.

The next day the engine light turned on and off many times and this time i noticed that the car sometimes looses power...like no turbo...

I ran the diagnosys and got the following errors:
P0404 ( EGR device (5) invalid signal )
P0236 ( Boost pressure (2) invalid signal )

I was wondering if this can be wirering problems since i get invalid signal or some bad sensor.
I am not considering a hose problem since it's an on and off problem although is getting more frequent.

How can i troubleshoot this problem?
Is there a tip for testing the sensors ( and which ones ? ) ?

I thank you in advance

Regards
Rui

i've got
p0404 as been - EGR System - Range/performance issue, sounds like a potentially blocked pipe if its vacuum operated, or there isn't a chance from EGR opening

p0236 as been
Turbo boost pressure sensor - Range - Performance error
or
MAP Sensor - Range / Performance issue

Both common causes isn't actually listed as sensor issues, but more damaged pipework related causing a false reading to be detected
When testing this would show up - but the sensor is most likley telling the truth, because it's seeing what its seeing

Have a nosey around to check for no split or pin hole pipes around the EGR and boost sensor

Greetings,

Thank you so much for the help.

I forgot to say that i have the EGR modified ( bloqued ).

About the boost sensor, where can i find it?

By the way, doe anyone have a diagram of the engine bay and all the sensors locations?

thanks

P0404 ( EGR device (5) invalid signal )

Why mention the error code then ??? (It's blocked btw)

P0236 ( Boost pressure (2) invalid signal )
I would be looking to make sure the engine is healthy before looking at sensors, when was the last oil and filter change?
What about the fuel filter and air filter?

Given the age of the car my money would be on an issue with the turbo it's self if it's never been changed as given the age of the car it's quite possible it's reaching the end of its life or other mechanical problem

Hi,

You can view my guide on where things are on the JTD in the guides section HERE.

It shows where the MAP (turbo boost sensor) MAF and boost solonoid are.

You can block the EGR on a JTD with no engine management light. Have you left the multi plug plugged into the EGR solonoid?

I would be looking at the readings of the MAP sensor, and remove it to check if its blocked up with carbon. (I would be surprised if it isnt). Easy 5 min job to do!

You EML is most likely to be caused by the P0236 issue. Also check the wiring and connector to the MAP as the cables can get rubbed/ stretched due to the position of the MAP.

When does the light come on? When under boost?

Hi guys,

About the EGR being blocked, i never got an engine light due to that.
When i bought the car ( about 3 years ago ) the EGR was already like that and never had a problem.

Funny you mention the oil and filters. I changed air filter and diesel filter 200Km ( which means 3 days ) before i get this problem.
At first i though that some diesel might have dropped over some electrical connection or something like that...
Oil and oil filter are due next weekend...

Code:
Have you left the multi plug plugged into the EGR solonoid?

I think everything is connected but i'll check.

Will check tomorrow and report ;)

Code:

That i did checked ( because is near the diesel filter i mentioned ) and looks ok, except for the external plastic wire tubing.

Code:
When does the light come on? When under boost?
I'm not sure...i can check.
One thing i know is that when in idle ( 800 RPM ) the light is off.
Today i started the car and without any gear in i raised the RPM up to 2500RPM and no light appeared. Only turns on and off while driving.

Hi guys,

Last night i checked the tubes and checked the connections for the MAP sensor and boost solenoid.

I detected a small oil leak that spreaded over the boost solenoid but nothing inside the connector and all electric connections were dry.

Refreshed MAP and solenoid connections.

Today i went to work and at the same time i recorded some parameters but on both trips ( to and from work ) the EML never turned on!

Boost felt ok and no errors when arriving home:D.

Maybe some bad connection?
Dont get me wrong, i'm happy it's normal again, but i would very like to know what happened!

Regards

Hi all I've been reading threw these post and I noticed and just want to find something out I c on the post the error code p0236 is that code for map sensor and turbo boost pressure Because those are to separate sensors correct me if I'm wrong
