Bought a temp sensor using the reg of car to identify model and they sent me a scew in plug type sensor. When I went to fit the socket wouldnt seat on the nut part of the sensor due to small plastic spigots. So it appears the one I need is the complete unit type. Before I change part does anyone know if the spigots were removed, could the old part be screwed out or is it an integral part. More delays.

temp sensor can be removed if thats what you mean

The part I was sent was this. Can the piece you have shown be separated and this part put in or is it an integral one piece unit

Elsewhere on the forum i saw it needs a 22mm spanner. That sounds a bit large. I will have a look at my one now and let you know in about an hour.

I agree the design in the picture looks as if it will be harder to undo than it should be.

its 19mm and although the sensor part is hexagonal and brass, there are black plastic spigots stopping the socket sitting over the brass nut part. They can be seen in the first pic

I most likely have an original part with a 3/4 inch nut which is very close to 19mm but slightly loose. The nut sticks out to allow either a spanner or a socket to fit on it with no problems.

If yours is looking like this part i doubt you will get the nut out without breaking it

Thanks for answer. Mine definitely has spigots which will not allow spanner or socket on unless they are cut off.

Please let me know if that one does unscrew when the tabs are removed.

Got the housing part that accepts the screw in sensor from local scrappy so here's hoping that it fits. Means a lot easier and cheaper to replace sensor in the future.

Did you know you can test the thermostat resistance before you remove it?

at 0C 5.97K ohms
at 10C 3.81K ohms
at 20C 2.5K ohms
at 40C 1.15K ohms
at 50C 0.8K ohms
at 60C 0.57K ohms
at 80C 0.30K ohms
at 90C 0.24K ohms
at 100C 0.17K ohms

Not thermostat
You mean thermistor (thermal - resistor)

Just nobody gets confused

At lunchtime today I removed my old single part (and more expensive) ECT sensor and replaced it with the two part. The housing part from a scrapyard and the new cheaper sensor. I will know this evening if this solves my intermittent loss of signal from the sensor.

Not an easy job but worth doing, as in future you use the easier to fit and cheaper screw in sensor, and anyway you have to take the complete old unit off anyway to replace it.

TIP: Remove the heater hose from the sensor first as it will be in you way when trying to undo bottom bolt. And when both bolts are out push DOWNWARDS to remove as the clip part of the housing locates into another plastic part. The reverse for refitting.

I changed the thermostat at the same time as the gauge never went over 1/4 and now I have a correct reading of 1/2 and decent heat from a bled system.

Hope that's the end of it for a while

wait no, rocker cover gasket next lol
