i have fitted a another engine to my punto selecta out of the same year and model car .it is a 1242cc 8 valve spi automatic.i am using my origional ecu and the car is hunting like mad and the plugs are black as hell and the engine management light is staying on.also some times the revs stick at 3000rpm untill you switch it off .

i am using the original injection unit and lamba sensor which were fine in the old motor
i have tryed leaving the battery off for an hour but made no difference

have you any ideas i will be very greatful cheers dave

have you had it out for adecent drive?ecu may be learning its settings.

go through the steps to check the head gasket failure...

swapping the engine with another second hand one is rolling the dice... do the checks and if it is faulty get the head skimmed and do it again properly rather than another second hand engine.... :bang:

hi ,i have sorted it ! the stepper motor on the injection unit was connected wrong as the 2 connectors go in either plug,i swopped them and i is fine.the reason i swoppped the lot was not due to any failure on the engine side apart from high miles and a flat spot and leaked oil.the head gasket had already been changed on the old unit so that wasnt the reason for the swop.cheers for the repleys dave
